A capacitor is an electronic component that can store electrical charge, or energy. This is also referred to as capacitance.
The function of a capacitor
The structure of a capacitor is always the same. It consists of two electrical conductors, which are called electrodes and are separated by an insulator (dielectric). They store equal charges in opposite directions, resulting in a voltage.
Applications of capacitors
Capacitors are needed in many areas. In microelectronics, capacitors are used as memory chips for the main memory of computer chips. In process engineering, gaseous fluids are condensed in a capacitor. Among other things, to cool refrigerators.
